Assisting cooperation for the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive on underwater noise
|

The QUIETSEAS project funded by the European Commission (call “DG ENV/MSFD 2020”) held its 2-day TRAINING SESSION on practical tools for the assessment of the environmental impact of underwater noise. The training session took place on 15 and 16 March 2023 in CTN facilities, Fuente Álamo, SPAIN.

Day 1 – Training and capacity building
Collection data: practical session on setting and deployment of acoustic recorders (how to collect data and use of hydrophone), data extraction and check, mooring systems, and advice for setting a complete monitoring program.
Day 2 – Presentation of project results and training
Data reporting/Data Call, tools developed, use of collected noise data and implications for management.
The Training Session focused on Competent Authorities of EU member states and non-EU countries of the Mediterranean and Black Sea Marine regions. During the session, the team of experts on underwater noise of the QUIETSEAS Project showed practical tools and methodologies for the assessment of the environmental impact of underwater noise.

Furthermore, before this 2-day Training session, on March 14th, CTN held a “Summit on underwater noise management”. The Summit brought together in Spain representatives of the most relevant initiatives on the issue such as TG Noise members, competent authorities, Quietseas partners, and other international research projects. The Summit will also provide an opportunity to expand your network while knowing the latest trends to approach this complex issue.
